Hi! Here is a picture of some of the items in my very own Emergency Evacuation Kit. Mommy followed the recommendations of the Humane Society of the United States closely when she put my kit together. Some things are what they recommend, the rest are extras mommy added for me.
Emergency supply kits for cats should include:
1. A three-day supply of food and drinking water, as well as bowls
- I have special food because of my FIV & IBS. Mommy has this food in my kit and will rotate it with fresh bags/cans
periodically so they don't expire. I also used these bowls when I was first brought home (I didn't come downstairs often
so mommy put bowls upstairs and downstairs for me - the point is they smell like my stuff already.)
2. Current photos and physical descriptions (not a problem with my mommy)
3. Cats should wear a collar and ID tag (I'm collared AND microchipped!)
4. Medications, vaccination records, license and first aid supplies (my evacuation kit is in with my emergency first aid kit
I showed you last week - see my ear cleaning solution! yuck!)
5. Sturdy carrier to transport cats safely as well as blankets or towels for bedding and warmth (we also have the cardboard
carriers from the Pet Store in case we can't get to my usual one.
6. Carriers should be large enough to comfortably house your cat for several days and to allow for separate areas for
elimination (litter in a small litter box) and feeding (Ok we don't have this, but we do have a smaller litterbox and liners
to take wherever we go)
7. Mommy made sure to put in catnip! I think I'd need that in case of emergency
8. Toys, she put extras of my favorite toys in the box so I'd have something familiar with
9. A blanket that smells like home. I love my Purdue blanket so it can't get packed away. Mommy bought a blanket of the
same fabric and after I lay on it for a while, she'll put that in the bin.
10. Stress can cause us kitties to get upset tummies. Mommy also included the hairball goopy stuff for me! I do love my
Laxitone, yum yum.
11. Cat litter (I use Feline Pine) and a container to be used as a litter box (Mommy bought a small uncovered one to fit in the
bin, but isn't sure I'll use it if I ever have to...any thoughts?)
12. An extra pair of nail clippers, blood stopper and soft paws (In case we can't get back to our house, it will keep her from
having to buy all new things - remember, I'm a scratcher and I'm good at getting soft paws off and if we're staying with
someone...)
13. My Purina EN treats. These are an extra treat I get from the vet and they are good for my tummy.
The Humane Society of the US www.hsus.org also gives tips on evacuating with dogs, birds, reptiles and other animals. Be sure to read up on this! Also, we didn't realize how many types of emergencies there are, for example, "Shelter In Place." Visit the Red Cross at www.redcross.org to see what disasters can hit your area so you're ready.
Now, on to the fun stuff. Bones is back! It is on tonight! Mommy just adores David Boreanaz and has since Buffy. Daddy calls him "her boyfriend" but mommy says daddy is the only guy for her...she just enjoys the view!

Wow, this is vary informutive, Mr Hendrix. I'm lukky becuz the Food Lady is an emerjincy preeparednuss nut!
You really are prepared for anything, aren't you. That's a very good idea, I have learned alot reading these two TT posts and love the links. Very informative for all of us.
That's a very proactive fing to do. Da ferst fing we need to get done is to get microchipped. Did it hurt when you gots it done?
We didn't see any Temptations on that list! Gots to have extra snacks!
Not The Mama agrees with your mommy about David Boreanaz -- yum-mmeee!
And he says we's gotta get a 'mergency kit like you got!
Thanks for such an informative list!
Meow for now,
Daphne

Dat wuz a furry gud emergancee kit. Momma went out and got us all prepared cuz we have dos BIG hurrycanes efurry year now it seems, so she said if'n we efur had to eee-vac-u-ate she hadda be ready. So she got efurryfing fur all 5 of us. Altho she hopes she nefur has to transport all 5 of us in da metal monster all at once.
Ooo I has a request. My koot sisfur Gracie (who is kinda shy) wood really like to have a balentine to go wif her to Beau Beau party, do yu fink maybe yu cood mention her on da blogosphere bloggie? She am a furry nice gurl.
Fanks!
Abby
It is a perfect evacuation kit. I don´t now that you have FIV.
My bean is very satisfied of that you eat food of quality (Hill's.
Purrrrrsssssss!!!
furry good. we gotta get our stuff togeffur. oh, an get microchipped. we got lots to do.
You are so prepared, I'm so impressed! We need to work on ours...Tara
We need to do that! The Big One used to be a cop, and he used to be a First Aid Responder too, and he's really really good with emergency kits to humans, but he doesn't even know about emergency kits for cats!
Well, except, we keep LOTS of both types of food in the house in easy to carry buckets, and our two soft carriers are always handy! (We haven't gotten Persephone her own yet, though we have an old, hard side carrier too!
My OTW says, maybe, for that carrier big enough to live in and keep food away from litter box, you could add a collapsible wire cage thing? Or a modular one? I don't know what it means, but cages don't sound good.
Maybe she IS working for the vishus deers if she knows about cages for cats!!!!
Very cool! That's a great idea to have an evacuation kit prepared. I can't wear a collar all the time though - it would irritate my skin since I don't have any fur. But I am microchipped, and I'm an indoor-only cat.
That is a very good list. We are very impressed with all your mama has done for you. We need to get more carriers cuz we only have enough to evacuate 6 of the guys here at Forty Paws. We have lots to do also!!
