Finally Friday - My Missing Collar

Some of you may have noticed, but as little as we have been around you may not have, that I have not been sporting my cool blue collar and blue heart ID tag lately.

(this is an old picture but a good one!)

The reason is this.

When I went to the VET last time I may have wrestled just a bit and my breakaway collar may have come off on accident and that is a good thing because I had a big rash and bald spots on my neck where my blue collar had gotten irritating.

Mommy bought me a new collar but has been waiting for the rash to go away and for some of the hair to grow back. At this point she thinks it has grown back as much as it will.

She wants to put the new collar on but needs some advice first. Has anyone else had this happen? If not, what type of collar to you wear. Any advice on non-irritating collars? We've not really had a chance to "google it"

I am microchipped so a collar isn't completely necessary, but since there are so many stray cats (sad) in our area due to a lot of farms, mommy wants someone looking out the window to know I belong to someone right away in case I ever get out.

We have not seen that, either! We hope your furs come back.

Our AngelKitty Sasha had that, she was always scratching at her collar. Mommy gave in and took it off, hers was plastic webbing. Maybe leather might work?

Well, we both have collars, but they are so loose TBT can put 3 of his fat fingers between us an it.

We could push them off over our heads ifen we wanted, We just dont (often).

Ya might want to find "beastie bands". They arent everywhere, but they are velcro AND elastic if we recall right. Those might fit better without irritation.

We are waitin for TBT ta have a reason ta drive a the nearest place they are sold ourselfs.

Wow! I can't help you out with that because I don't wear a collar. Good luck!

I've never had any probs with my collar, so I can't help you, sorry mate. But you're so well looked after, no one could EVER mistake you for a stray!

That probably didn't feel too good either. Sorry, never had a collar on so I can't help either!

I lost some furs from under my collar when my skin got a bit irritated. It was a nylon collar, and mum thinks it got a bit too rubby. Now I wear a cotton collar from an Etsy seller called Pretapawte, and have not had any more irritation. It is nice and soft. The furs are still short where it was irritated, though, over a year later.

None of us wear collars but Floyd had one for his first year with mom (then Kirzon kept pulling it off him and she gave up). He did loose some furs under his collar from the rubbing (no rash though) and so if it is rubbing that is pretty likely to happen we think - if it is a bit looser maybe that would help it not to rub as much. Plus being black it is probably more obvious on you then on a light furred cat (which is why mom noticed it on Floyd too since he was black).

I just wear a small :::cringe::: dog collar. The People make sure they can get 3 fingers under it, and once in a while the give me rubs under it, but it's never worn my furs down like that. Dunno what the answer t that is...

We wear 'em for the same reason you do...in case we get out, so other people will know that we're inside kitties and not ferals...

We never heard of that happening, Hendrix. We wear collars...Beastie Bands...they are stretchy and velcro close. They come in lots of cool patterns and there are holiday ones too...we have regular ones, Halloween ones and Christmas ones.

We don't wear collars. Both microchiped and mum is furry sure that we don't get outside.

The very same thing happened to me! Mommy took my collar off sometime last summer. The furs grew back, but they are still shorter on my neck. Maybe it was the nylon? I am microchipped, but we might try a cotton one next time. I also like the idea of a velcro one. Tiki gets mad at her collar, so she only wears it to the vet and to hotel rooms. We had to take the bells off because Kesey can't stop chasing us. The bells drive him crazy.
