How much do my mommy & daddy love me? Lots! I have my own first aid kit JUST FOR ME!
Mommy has always wanted to put some emergency/evacuation kits and first aid kits together for us, but always put it off. This year hearing how poor GT hurt his leg and all the problems the midwest had with ice storms and loss of power, she kicked into gear. So, here are 13 things (there are more too!) that are in my very own first aid kit (next week will be my "emergency evacuation kit" so visit then too!)
1. A tiny flashlight to inspect my ears, eyes, paws etc. for injuries / splinters
2. A blunt tipped tweezers (so if I jerk my head or paw it won't jab me)
3. A GREAT IDEA for a stretcher that mommy got from my first aid book (see below) - A cutting board wrapped in a towel to transport me to the vet
4. Extra lint free white towels to put over me when I'm on the board & masking tape* (over the towel - not my fur) to keep me still
5. Plastic eyedropper or syringe
6. Gauze pads in case of injuries & gauze on a roll to wrap injuries
7. Sterile saline solution
8. Hydrogen peroxide (helps with making kitties vomit)
9. Neosporine for minor scratches and cuts
10. Strips of cotton to use as a muzzle to help them treat me and I can't bite
11. Cotton balls and swabs
12. Ice pack
*The duct tape roll covering the masking tape roll is for something else - mommy forgot to take it out of MY BIN!
She also included: A good pet first-aid book (mine is the First Aid Companion for Dogs and Cats by Amy Shojai) & a Home Veterinary Handbook, My Vet and the Nearest Emergency Vet Clinic's Phone Numbers, The poison-control center or hotline, and copies of my rabies vaccination status & copies of my important medical records
The large first aid kit that has the red on it in the background (for "effect") is the Red Cross/Target emergency kit. It is a great starter kit for beans for a good price of $29.99 & a teaser for wht you'll see next week!
First, nothing, nothing, nothing can replace good vet care. If you hurt yourself bad or feel really icky, make sure your beans call the vet. Notice most of this kit is just to get me to the vet safely!
Second, a great list for what should be in your kit (and they list kitties & woofies) can be found on the Humane Society of the United States' website - hsus.org (look up "first aid" in the search box)
Third, the Red Cross - redcross.org has wonderful disaster prep lists. Even if you live where we do and don't get lotsa natural disasters, a chemical spill into the air from a passing train or something can force an evacuation. We can also lose power like our poor Meowers from Missouri did, or get a tornado in the area. Be prepared!

Wow, what a great Thursday Thirteen. Very informative. And a great idea for all us.
That is wonderful! Your mom is really prepared for everything. The Lap Lady should do something like this because she is always freaking out about how she would get all three of us together in an emergency. Hmm...maybe some crunchies and some water would be good to keep too?
Wow, your very own first aid kit! Very impressive.
Thanks for the great tips Mr. Hendrix. You are very responsible. I am going to ask my Mommie to make a kit for me.
That's a great idea. :) What a wonderful First Aid Kit. :) I'm going to ask my humans to put one together for me.

WOW - that's a furry good idea - we lives in earthshake country and we needs emergency supplies too! Tell your momma to put some Temptations in your kit too - that always makes a boo-boo feel better!
That was wonderfully informative! Thank you so much! Meowm has to check on her human first aid kit, so she says she will set up one for me too!

Wonderful idea Mr. Hendrix!!! Maw always thinks about doing that but doesn't get 'round to it. She probably should with 10 of us.
Tell your Maw that the American Red Cross also offers Pet First Aid classes. Don't know if they do in your town, but they do in Dallas. It's a 4 hour course and the beans get a Red Cross Pet First Aid book, and they learn how to do CPR on honest to goodness CPR poodies and woofies!!! (Like the CPR doll, but with 4 legs and fur!!)
We anxiously await the evacuation kit!!!
Great ideas, never thought about a first aid kit for animals. Good job.
What a great list...I'm going to get my mom to put one together. Interesting, tape over the blanket. Hopefully, the vet tech won't need to do that next time. Glad you liked my blanket tip!

Wow, that's a great list! We gotta get our mom to make somethin' like that up for us. Thanks for postin' this, it's furry important!
Thank you for visiting our blog! Our Mother did the same thing recently. She took the D-o-g camping and thought she would need a first aid kit. She says it is for us kitties too, though.
Great list Mr. Hendrix. Yu have a furry smart Momma.
It is also gud fur those who are in areas prone to natural diasters to have some type of e-vac-u-a-shun plan.
Momma really got into gear wif all dos big wet storms (hurricanes) that come round here.
If'n we culd only get the beans that organized to get all our stuff togefur like you did. We's furry impressed.
'ello Mr Hendrix, oooo you're lovely an' shiny :)
do you play guitar like the other Mr Hendrix? I dun' play guitar but I do know how ter break strings...
This is amazing - my mom's so disorganized she'd be lucky to get her contact lenses in!
But I'm going to inform her about this so she can prepare for all of us, just in case ...
Thank you for introducing me on the Blogosphere Mr. Hendrix!! Wanna come over for some chicken? we're having BOSTON MARKET tonight! YAY!
This is great! And do you know what? The bin you are storing the stuff in works as a litter box too. That is what each one of us has, instead of the low ones, cuz I tend to "miss" the box.
Wow your Mom is furry organized ~Merlin, Shadow, ko Ko
What a wonderful idea for a Thursday Thirteen. I found it very informative. You have a smart Mom.
That is amazing, your mum really is ready for anything. You must feel furry secure knowing she is taking such good care of you.
My mum's mum has been teaching first aid to humans for years and my mum's sister is a paramedic and my mum teaches first aid to the children at her school so I hope if I ever need a first aider there will be someone to come running!
sorry we are late....but super grate idea for TT! We will have to have the MTLH get right on one for us!
If'n we need ennyfing we haf to share the beans furrst aid bocks. We're going to show this to mum an tell her we gotta haf owr own!!
